In 1969 the Triacca family bought the farm surrounding the old Villa Franchi, used by the previous owners only as a hunting reserve. Today, with the previously uncultivated land cleared and planted with vines, the estate is the largest in the Greve in Chianti municipality.
It lies at an altitude of 350 masl and extends over 345 ha, comprising woodland, fields for crops and pasture. Vines cover 100 ha, mainly Sangiovese but also Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. From an average harvest at La Madonnina of 600 g/m2, annual wine production is 4000 hL
The Greve in Chianti municipality has always been included in the Chianti Classico appellation and lies right at the heart of the hilly countryside between Siena and Florence.
The Sangiovese grape is the principal variety in Tuscany but, over the years, new varieties have been introduced. Chianti Classico is the only wine with a guarantee of origin and quality (DOCG, Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita).
